What is Hospice?

Hospice is a healthcare choice that offers comfort and dignity to people who have a life-limiting prognosis. To enhance a patient's quality of life, hospice focuses on alleviating physical symptoms and providing emotional and spiritual support. Hospice embraces not only the patient, but also their family and friends with an interdisciplinary team approach.

The majority of hospice services are provided in the patient's home environment, whether that is a private residence, assisted living, or skilled nursing facility. Abbey Hospice has a freestanding inpatient facility located in Social Circle. There are 12 rooms, 13 beds which are available for short-term symptom management and respite stays.

We Honor Veterans

Abbey Hospice is proud to be a partner with the We Honor Veterans program in conjunction with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). The goal of this program is to care for and honor those who have served when they near the end of their life. Many Veterans and their families are not aware of the end-of-life services and benefits that are available to them, and we work to expand awareness of the hospice benefit and its availability.

At Abbey Hospice, we strive to provide this best care and compassion to our Veteran patients. When they are admitted, we are proud to visit the patient and honor them with a personalized certificate and a patriotic pin to thank them for their service to our country.

Veterans who are under the care of Abbey Hospice may request volunteers at any time during their care, and our Volunteer Coordinator will do their best to match the patient with a Veteran volunteer.

The staff at Abbey went over and above as they helped us care for our family, Once for a family member who was in my home and again for a family member who was both at home and then in-patient. So appreciative of their genuine care and concern for the patient and for the caregiving family.
